Entertainer Bootsy Collins Inducted Into Phi Beta Sigma

William “Bootsy” Collins, musician, singer, songwriter and record producer, was bestowed Honorary Membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Bootsy’s in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Officiating the ceremony were Honorable Brother Jimmy Hammock, International President, along with Brothers Marco W. McMilian, International Executive Director and Lezelle Lowe, Great Lakes Regional Director. Coordinating the ceremony and post reception was the Honorable Brother Carter D. Womack, 27th & 29th International President.

Sigma brothers from the Cincinnati, Dayton and Akron area, along with those from Kentucky, were on hand to celebrate the occasion.

Rising to prominence with James Brown in the late 1960s, and with Parliament-Funkadelic in the ‘70s, Collins’s driving bass guitar and humorous vocals established him as one of the leading names in funk. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2008, Collins opened Bootsy’s, a restaurant/club with Cincinnati area restaurateur Jeff Ruby.

Of his honor Collins responded, “I am truly touched by this recognition. I really feel the love from you brothers.”
