"Afterward, we get together and brainstorm ideas about who we think will benefit most," Prier said. "The plan for the next blow-out weekend starts after the first one's finished."
Leanetta McNealy, principal at Duval Elementary Fine Arts Academy, said she was shocked by the contribution.
"Schools are always in need of funds, and because of the struggle we have to face, you bet your bottom dollar we will certainly use the funds to assist us in the venue for success for children," McNealy said.
Judy Black, director at Prairie View Elementary, also expressed surprise about the donation.
"It's not often you get a phone call from someone saying they want to give you money," Black said, "especially when you haven't contacted them."
Fraternity President Antonio Redding said because of the fundraiser's success, the group plans to continue this fundraising tradition.
"This year we had more visitors from all around the U.S. and touched all bases of the community from little kids up to the elderly," Redding said.
Donations also went to Rawlings Elementary, Pleasant Place, the Reichert House, the Boys and Girls Club and Doctors without Borders Relief Fund.
Remaining funds go to the Craig Christopher Hues Scholarship, which provides academic financial assistance to younger siblings of Phi Beta Sigma graduates.
